The Australian GT Championship will boast its biggest grid for five years at this month’s Phillip Island 101 endurance meeting.

A 35 car field has been confirmed for the 101 lap second event of the Australian GT season which includes an array of V8 Supercar drivers.

Holden Racing Team ace Garth Tander will once again combine with Tony Quinn behind the wheel of the new McLaren 650S.

The duo are considered among the favourites following their triumph at the event last year and the Highlands Park 101.

Other V8 regulars at the meeting include Andre Heimgartner, who will pilot the Fastway Couriers Trophy Class Porsche, while Nissan Motorsports driver James Moffat has recently been confirmed to drive Kevin Weeks’ Ford GT.

Meanwhile, Holden Racing Team and Tekno Autosports co-drivers Warren Luff and Jonathon Webb will also taste the new McLaren 650s of Tony Walls and Klark Quinn respectively.

Dean Canto continues behind the wheel of Andrew Taplin’s Aston Martin Vantage, while the repaired Maranello Motorsport Ferrari 458 GT3 is set to return in the hands of Tony D’Alberto.

D’Alberto will be joined by television presenter Grant Denyer, who will make his full Australian GT debut.

A major change to the event format has been confirmed with two 15-minute qualifying sessions held on Saturday morning, one for each nominated driver in each car.

The grid will be determined by taking an average of the combined times from these sessions.

This system of two qualifying sessions will be adopted for the remaining Australian GT Championship rounds  at Townsville, Sydney Motorsport Park, Sandown and Highlands Motorsport Park.
