Australian GT has a new owner after today's announcement that the current owners has accepted an offer to sell the sportscar racing business.
Directors Martin Wagg and Rachael Wagg have accepted an offer from Tony Quinn to buy the Australian GT Sportscar Group P/L, the company that owns the category management rights to the Vodka O Australian GT Championship to Tony Quinn.
It has also been announced that Spherix, category managers of the Australian V8 Ute Racing Series, will be actively involved in the day to day administration, marketing PR and promotion of the GT Championship.
The current GT management team will continue on, in the short term, to assist preparations for the next round at Townsville.
“In considering the offer we believe that the new owners will take GT to the next level in a more corporate approach,” said Martin Wagg.
“Given the strong support and the initiatives taken at the midyear review and the number of new cars coming for season 2012, we believe it to be the appropriate time to move on allowing the new management the last half of the season to get established in preparation for season 2012.”
Rachael Wagg says that the new owner will be able to take the category to the next level.
“Having run the category from its inception, I decided that I wanted more time to explore some other exciting opportunities” Rachael added.
“We have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of building Australian GT as the country's premier sportscar category and are confident the new owner and management team will continue to take Australian GT to bigger and better things for the future.”
