Erebus Motorsport says a big effort to understand its cars in the lead up to Tasmania paid off as David Reynolds chalked up its first podium of the season.
The Melbourne squad returned to form at the technical Symmons Plains circuit with both Reynolds and Anton De Pasquale enjoying strong one lap pace to qualify in the top 10 for both races.
This was backed up by Reynolds finishing sixth in Race 7 before going on to convert third on the grid into the final place on the podium on Sunday.
While Symmons Plains has been a strong Holden track, team CEO Barry Ryan says a recent step-by step analysis of the cars coupled with an upright upgrade has helped push the squad to the front of the grid.
“We made a big effort. We always make a big effort, but at the grand prix we really tried to focus on learning what we were doing and not just trying to make random changes,” Ryan told Speedcafe.com.
“It's been a step-by-step process and this weekend having Anton fast from the word go, we had two cars working together really well and the results show when two cars work together you get further up the grid.
“Dave had a pass for second, but didn't quite pull it off but had a really strong third.
“I think it's genuine pace. It's a shame Davey couldn't get the start he had on Saturday, if he'd taken the lead he probably could have fought for it.
“We probably had the pace to fight for the lead; the gap sort of stayed the same for the whole race. He did a really good job. Good strategy and successful day apart from Anton's issue.
“We showed we were pretty much the second Commodore team this weekend behind the Triple Eight cars, and obviously Winterbottom's in almost with the Triple Eight cars so you expect Winterbottom to be really strong and he was this weekend.”
The squad, lying sixth in teams standings, will now head to Phillip Island later this week for the WD-40 Philip Island SuperSprint.
