Darren Forrest and Paul Razum are set to debut in next weekend’s MRF Tyres Australian Production Car Series event at Phillip Island in a ‘bogan spec’ Holden Commodore VZ SSZ.

The pair purchased the road-going six-litre Commodore, which had seen a hard life, before transforming it into the a race ready machine.

“We bought our weapon off some hoons in the back streets of Sunshine West,” explained Forrest.

“It had mags on the front and stockies on the rear with plenty of rubber under the rear wheel arches – it was full bogan spec!

“It looked pretty dodgy, so instead of registering it we decided to turn it into the race car.

“Both Paul and I have raced this same model on the dirt for 10-odd years so we know a bit about them and it will go all right we hope now that is has undergone its transformation.”

Both Forrest and co-driver Razum have extensive experience on the speedway, with next weekend’s event their first with the Australian Production Car Series.

“I have raced in most Sedan classes in Australia and had a few podiums in state titles and such – we have both been doing this for a while,” said Forrest.

“I started at 12 years old and am now 49, while Razz started at 13 years old and is now 35.

“We both ran last year in the Speedway on Bitumen event at Winton with me on Pole for the final, but Razz eventually won the event and now claims the World Speedway Bitumen Championship as his own.”

The Phillip Island event, which runs from June 28-30, marks the second round of the APCS season and features two 300-kilometre races.

The event is promoted by Ontic Events, which is owned by APC category manager Iain Sherrin, and is the second standalone event of the 2019 season.

Sherrin has recently canvassed categories with a view to potentially running more events for 2020.
