Brown in the Arise #26 Racing Ferrari 296 had just pitted for new tyres when Gotz in the #77 Craft-Bamboo Racing went to the outside.
Gotz came across the nose of Brown and they made contact.
The Mercedes-AMG spun and went backwards into the gravel trap. With the car beached, the Safety Car was called.
Brown escaped any serious damage.
To that point, the Ferrari had dominated the first stanza of the race with co-driver Chaz Mostert at the helm.
“We opted to go another set of tyres, so we were on cold tyres,” Brown explained.
“The Merc was on warmer tyres and I just held my line, braked into there. I’m not really sure, it happened so quick.
“I was just trying to watch the footage and see what happened. I think I was on my line and we collided.
“It is a little bit crazy,” he added.
“I’m fairly happy. Chaz did a mega job this morning. Handed the car back in fifth. He did a great job to get us back in first. Bit disappointing to drop a few positions there.
“Had a little bit of a collision down at the last corner, and luckily it hasn’t done too much damage to the car.”
