Matt Campbell has finished a somewhat frustrating seventh place at the latest round of the Porsche Supercup at Silverstone in the UK.
After scoring pole and his debut win in the series last weekend at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, Silverstone proved a greater challenge.
The Carrera Cup Australia champion qualified fifth on Saturday but was pushed back to sixth on the grid.
The Queenslander moved to fifth off the start and maintained position on the opening laps to sit in behind Fach Auto Tech team-mate Josh Webster.
Campbell clearly had the faster car, but the Englishman was playing no favours, closing the door on every passing attempt.
This meant Campbell was also under pressure from behind as Dan Cammish forced his way past on the third of 13 laps. Cammish then charged past Webster and set about third place man Dylan Pereira.
As Campbell continued to push Webster, the Aussie ran wide and dropped back to eighth on lap 7.
Campbell was able to fight his way back past Philip Morin, but could not get past Robert Lukas through to the finish.
“That's not the result I'd hoped for,” said Campbell.
“We didn't really have the pace today. I hope that we can follow up on my win from Spielberg at the next round in Budapest.”
There were no such issues for race winner Dennis Olsen who scored his first Supercup victory ahead of championship leader Michael Ammermuller with Pereira giving Lechner Racing a sweep of the podium.
The Porsche Supercup reconvenes at the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring from July 28-30.
