Van Den Dungan, another SpeedSeries regular, will step in for the next two rounds of the calendar in Darwin and Sydney, while there has been no confirmation for the final round at Sandown.
The Victorian’s tenure with the SpeedSeries dates back to the inaugural Shannons Nationals broadcast, and he has featured regularly throughout the 20-year history of the series.
Most recently, Van Den Dungan featured as a substitute for Chris Stubbs at the Queensland Raceway round last year.
“The Shannons SpeedSeries has always been close to my heart. I was part of the very first broadcast at Sandown many years ago, so it’s exciting to be back with a championship I’ve loved for a long time,” Van Den Dungen said.
“Richard has been a huge part of the Shannons SpeedSeries, so stepping into the role is bittersweet. He’s left a tremendous legacy, but I’m looking forward to contributing wherever the team needs me and helping tell the stories that make this championship special.
Take the short survey.
“I’ve always enjoyed being versatile. Whether it’s calling the racing or working in pit lane, it’s all about making sure the story is told the right way.
“One of the biggest drawcards for me was the people. Rusty [Greg Rust], Stubbsy [Chris Stubbs] and the entire broadcast team are first-class, and I’m really looking forward to working alongside them again.
“It’s a brilliant team to be part of. Everyone is incredibly talented, but we also have a lot of fun together, and I think that comes through in the broadcast.”

Van Den Dungan is not the only new face to join the broadcast team this season.
Bathurst 1000 winner Lee Holdsworth will join the coverage in place of Nick Percat, who will be unavailable in Darwin.
Holdsworth will provide expert commentary from the drivers’ perspective, expected to fill Percat’s regular slots for GT World Challenge and Monochrome GT4 Australia.
“I’m really excited to join the Shannons SpeedSeries broadcast team,” said Holdsworth.
“I’ve done a bit of commentary before and really enjoyed it, so I’m looking forward to working with Rusty, Stubbsy, Cam and the rest of the crew in Darwin.
“I don’t spend much time at racetracks these days so it’s a great opportunity and one I’m really looking forward to being involved with.
“I’ve raced GT cars for a number of years, I know the category and the drivers pretty well.
“Hopefully I can give viewers some insight into what the drivers are experiencing behind the wheel and add a bit of perspective from having raced against many of them myself.”
The pair will join regulars Rust, Stubbs, and Charlie Barlow for the coverage, which will be broadcast live on Fox Sports and Kayo.
GT Festival Darwin will be held at Hidden Valley on July 24-26.
