Fabian Coulthard is unconcerned by his lack of pace in final practice after admitting his side of the DJR Team Penske garage elected to focus on exploring set-ups.
The championship leader was ninth fastest in opening practice before ending the day in 18th position, 0.7s adrift of pace setter Chaz Mostert (Prodrive).
Coulthard reported no issues with his Falcon FGX during the sessions as he used the second practice to re-evaluate set-ups for street circuits.
The Kiwi says the team will pore over the data from team-mate Scott McLaughlin, who ended Friday second fastest.
Coulthard did admit that he was unable to hook up a lap during the final 40-minute hit-out.
“It’s just practice, we were exploring everything, but it is nice to have Scotty in the garage next door with a quick car which we can look at the information overnight and try and make my car a little better,” Coulthard told Speedcafe.com.
“I’m not unhappy, I just didn’t quite put the lap together.
“We are just exploring a few thing as we get limited testing so we just wanted to try and re-quantify a few things at a track like this. I think we have done our evaluating and we come back stronger tomorrow.
“We did a fair bit (of changes) in Practice 1 and there was a short break in between Practice 2, so we just need to evaluate everything and see what worked and what didn’t.”
The squad will return for a 20 minute qualifying session at 1230 on Saturday before a 200km race at 1610 local time.
