Daniel Abt claims maiden Formula E race victory

Daniel Abt

Daniel Abt has raced to his first ever Formula E race win at the Mexico City ePrix.

The German eased to victory after early leader Felix Rosenqvist was forced out when his car lost drive out of the final chicane.

He was joined on the sidelines by Mahinda team-mate Nick Heidfeld, who suffered similar issues.

Following Rosenqvist’s retirement, Oliver Turvey led the race prior to the pit stops, but lost out in the mid-race car change.

The Swedish driver’s stop proved five seconds longer than Abt, who took over at the head of the race.

Turvey hung on to second at the finish after seeing off a challenge from Sebastien Buemi who was forced to settle for the final podium place.

Jean-Eric Vergne, who ended the race fifth, now leads the championship over Rosenqvist by 12 points, with Sam Bird in third.

In the team’s standings Teccheetah has taken over at the top with 99 points following Mahindra’s double retirement, now nine points in arrears.
