Reynolds: Privilege to drive for Toll HRT

Will Davison and David Reynolds

Will Davison and David Reynolds

David Reynolds has been confirmed as Will Davison’s co-driver for the L&H 500 at Phillip Island and the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

It hasn’t been a champagne season for Davison, but both Davison and Reynolds are keen to turn around the fortunes of the #22 entry’s results in the ‘Season of Endurance.’

Speedcafe.com.au’s Grant Rowley spoke to Reynolds about his role with the Holden Racing Team, his expectations and the future …

SPEEDCAFE: The Toll Holden Racing Team is the Ferrari of Australian motorsport. You’re driving for HRT at Phillip Island and Bathurst. Do you look at your role in the team as an honour?

DAVID REYNOLDS: It’s a privelige to drive for the Holden Racing Team, especially in its 20th year.

When I joined the HSV team, it was its 20th year, and now I’m driving for HRT in its 20th year. It has a nice ring to it!

I think it looks pretty good on any driver’s CV to be associated with the Holden Racing Team. Everyone involved are about getting the most out of you and the car. They’ve got a winning attitude. Hopefully, we can translate into a really good result.

SPEEDCAFE: For the car #22 entry, it has been a difficult season. Your team-mate Will Davison hasn’t had the year we thought he was going to have. Based on that, how do you guys tackle these endurance races?

DR: You just have to reset yourself – but not start again. I’m in a different role to what Will’s in. I need to give as much help and encouragement as I can to help the car goes as fast as it needs to go.

SPEEDCAFE: You competed in just one V8 race this year (Townsville Fujitsu Series). You would have done a few testing miles. With your lack of regular seat time, are you confident that you’ll be able to be on the pace?

DR: I’m confident in the team, and that’s what gives me confident – knowing they can do the job. Personally, I probably don’t have great form because I’ve been on the sidelines but after a few laps, I should be able to sort it out.

During the year, I might have done 10-15 test laps in a stint, and I’d get out and question things, but Townsville really helped me and I realised that I was travelling OK.

SPEEDCAFE: While it is nice to be a HRT driver for the next two races, there’s no doubt you want to be a full-time driver in the future. Do you agree with that?

DR: Definitely. I’ve had a year off and I’m ready. But for the next few months, I have a purpose, and I can’t wait to get stuck into it.
