Reinbold was a staple of the North American open-wheel racing scene, competing in the Indy Racing League in the early 2000s and into what is now known as the IndyCar Series.
The team was co-founded with the De Bord family and was known for providing IndyCar newcomers and even the most established names opportunities to race.
Reinbold’s team was a staple of the Indianapolis 500, contesting every edition since 2000.
This year, the team ran two cars for Conor Daly and Jack Harvey, who finished 12th and 22nd respectively.
The team’s best result in the Indianapolis 500 remains fourth with Oriol Servia in 2012.
Reinbold had been diagnosed with cancer.

“We are heartbroken to share the news that our owner, leader, and friend, Dennis Reinbold, has passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family,” the team said in a statement.
“We ask you to join us in supporting the Reinbold family and respecting their privacy during this painful time.
“Dennis was a proud son of Indianapolis. He built a successful family of automobile dealerships across the state, and he loved the community of Indianapolis that gave him so much in return.
“That same devotion fueled his passion for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway—its history and the relentless pursuit of an Indy 500 win drove him every day.”
Despite Reinbold’s sudden passing, the team said it plans to return to contest the Indianapolis 500 in 2027.
“We can think of no better way to honor Dennis than to chase a victory in the 111th Running of the Indianapolis 500,” the statement continued.
“We ask race fans to join us in remembering the man, his passion for our sport, and the memories we shared.”
Dennis, what a pleasure it has been to be a part of your organization over the years. The passion for @IndyCar racing you had and the tremendous culture you built within the team is something to be extremely proud of. Can’t thank you enough for the chance to compete at the front… pic.twitter.com/UHnibY4Cro

Harvey took to social media to pay tribute to Reinbold.
“There are no words to describe this loss,” said Harvey.
“Dennis was a brilliant leader. His commitment and passion for motorsports was second to none.
“My favourite part about Dennis was his ability to make everyone feel special and that they had a special relationship with him! What a beautiful thing.
“I am so proud and grateful to have spent the last two Indy’s 500 racing for him, and will continue to help and support the team for his legacy.
“Sending my condolences to the entire Reinbold family, to the DRR racing team and to everyone at DRR automotive dealerships.”
More than 30 drivers have raced for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.
Noteworthy names to have driven for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing include Ryan Briscoe, Buddy Rice, Mike Conway, Justin Wilson, Santino Ferrucci, and Ryan Hunter-Reay.
“Devastating in so many ways,” said Hunter-Reay.
“Lost a true friend, leader, fierce competitor, family man.
“He embodied the essence of pure passion for the Indy 500 and IndyCar.”
