Will Davison has received final approval to compete at the WD-40 Phillip Island 500 after passing an exit test prior to opening practice.

The Tekno Autosports driver passed medical examinations this week leading up to the event but was required to proved to officials that he can alight from his car within the mandated seven second limit.

Davison is continuing to recover from a fracture to an offshoot from his vertebra caused in a 12-car pile up in Race 3 at the Tyrepower Tasmania Super Sprint.

The 34-year-old has been pleased by his rate of recovery but admits today’s practice will ultimately decide if his body will stand up to the rigours of racing.

“I was confident, I was sore but I have reasonable movement,” Davison told Speedcafe.com.

“I knew I could do it but I didn’t want to strain myself. It was a fine balancing act of getting out without injuring my back.

“If the the thing was on fire I will be out quick.

“I think I will be like this for weeks it will be a six week recovery, we will soon find out if I can stand the pressures.”

Opening practice is due to begin at 1230 AEST.
