The Dunlop story for the ITM 500 Auckland meeting featuring the Jason Richards trophy is hard control tyres for all cars.
With used tyres not allowed to be taken into New Zealand, all the teams have extra allocation.
The good thing about this is it makes it very easy to pick the form car/driver combinations because they all have new tyres to start practice.
The Dunlop Sport Maxx control tyre is very tough and hardy, with a very wide operating level but of course like any race tyre, keeping it in its peak operating window is the difference between the awesome teams and the merely good squads.
If your tyres hang on to the grip better than the next bloke it surely makes you look good and that factor is usually down to the engineering team on each car.
The Pukekohe circuit is what I would call medium in its abrasion level.
But in a category this close and competitive, the fine engineering edge for tyre life can mean the difference between being on the podium and 10th place or worse.
For an each-way bet I would go for young star Scotty McLaughlin in the #33 Volvo.
He is a Kiwi at home where he won his first main game race last year and with a very strong aero performance, I have marked him as the one to watch in my Form Guide.
