The Team SRM BMW M6 is not eligible to score points in the opening round of the Australian GT Championship at the Clipsal 500.
A late sign off of the car’s FIA homologation has forced championship organisers to place the entry in a non-points scoring Invitational Class for its series debut this weekend.
The championship had been told that homologation would arrive in time, but the necessary sign off failed to reach the organisers before the cut off prior to qualifying on Thursday.
Balance of Performance from SRO was received for the M6 GT3 which has been adopted this weekend, although FIA homologation is yet to be received.
Homologation arrived in time for the new Mercedes AMG GT3 models of which four are competing this weekend.
“We were issued with an FIA homologation and BOP for the Mercedes prior to qualifying but the BMW was not able to secure an FIA homologation in time,” said category manager Ken Collier.

It is expected that the BMW M6 run by Steven Richards Motorsport will be eligible to claim championship points from the Australian Grand Prix meeting from March 17-20.
The SRM M6 GT3, piloted by Steven Richards and Max Twigg, finished in 19th position on its race debut yesterday.
