Alpine fastest as Ferraris struggle in Le Mans qualifying
Alpine took provisional pole position for the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans by less than 0.1s.

Teams were faced with just 30 minutes of qualifying to whittle each class down to its top 15 ahead of the Hyperpole shootout session.

Habsburg’s Alpine capitalised on the final fresh tyre run to take provisional pole by just 0.013s over the #12 Cadillac of Louis Delétraz, while the second Alpine could only manage 10th position.

Last year’s winning #83 AF Corse Ferrari struggled for outright speed, eventually ending the session 17th out of an 18-strong Hypercar field.

Joining the Ferrari in not progressing through to Hyperpole were both Peugeot 9X8s, including New Zealand’s Nick Cassidy – lining up alongside former Formula 1 pilots Stoffel Vandoorne and Paul Di Resta.

Kiwi Earl Bamber’s #101 Cadillac wound up fifth fastest in the hands of Sebastien Bourdais, while Brendon Hartley finished eighth in the #8 Toyota, with the lap set by Sebastien Buemi.

Both Genesis Magma Racing entries made it through to Hyperpole in their first Le Mans attempt, besting all three Ferraris.

F1 Academy champion Doriane Pin posted the fastest time in LMP2 by over 0.5s ahead of teenager Ian Aguilera (#37 CLX Motorsport).

Both Australians in the LMP2 class progressed to Hyperpole, with Jack Doohan in eighth for Nielsen Racing and James Allen 11th in the #99 AO by TF entry.

Peter Dempsey initially set the fastest time in LMGT3 in the #34 Corvette for Racing Team Turkey by TF, however was later disqualified for excessive wear on the rear diffuser.

The car will start at the rear of the field as a result, gifting the provisional pole to the #77 Proton Competition Ford Mustang piloted in the session by Eric Powell.

Australia’s Martin Berry ended up 10th in the #61 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG as less than a second covered the top 10.

Yasser Shahin, the 2024 class winner, barely scraped into the top 15, just 0.065s ahead of the #62 Team Qatar by Iron Lynx entry.

Both Garage 59 McLarens missed out on progressing, including the most recent WEC race winner, while the other three Corvettes also struggled for pace.
