Fogg wins NZV8s, buys V8 SuperTourer entry

Angus Fogg secured the BNT NZV8 Series title at Taupo today – and has confirmed he will switch to the V8 SuperTourers class.

Fogg held a big lead going not the final event, only needing a handful of points to collect his first title.

He secured the win, but it was won under controversial circumstances when he was involved in an incident with Australian title rival Jason Bargwanna. Fogg collected the rear of Bargwanna’s car, spinning him out and spoiling any chance he had of snatching the crown.

Bargwanna was irate at the incident.

“Foggy had a meltdown,” Bargwanna said.

“It’s not acceptable. I needed to win the race.”

A 50 second penalty for the incident was not enough to take the title away from Fogg who went on to secured his first NZV8 crown, and followed it up with news that the Fogg Motorsport Syndicate [FMS] has grabbed the 19th V8ST car and franchise slot vacated by Bill Farmer, after Farmer recently purchased the Kayne Scott car and franchise. Fogg will compete in a Holden.

“I am absolutely stoked that it’s finally all come together,” Fogg said.

“I am humbled and grateful for the syndicate’s support of my aims and objectives. I now have to work hard to put together the running budget, and have some novel ideas how some of my fans can purchase space on the car, by joining the Angus Fogg Fan Club.”

No debut round has yet been confirmed, but it is likely that Fogg will race the car as soon as it is built, probably for the first endurance race.

In the meantime, he has also committed to running his existing championship winning Falcon in the televised V8 Challenge Cup series that supports V8 SuperTourers.

Paul Radisich, CEO of V8SuperTourers, is pleased to have Fogg signed up for the V8ST class.

“Having Angus on board this year completes the long list of the very best New Zealand drivers to join the V8ST Championship Series,” Radisich said.

“Foggy is a household name and now a champion in the BNT V8 Championship which we genuinely consider to be an ideal stepping stone into our cars. This is why we introduced the V8CC support race series and we are looking forward to seeing Angus in action in that until the SuperTourer is ready to race.

“We were very impressed with Angus’s ability to jump straight into our prototype on old tyres and lap competitively almost immediately at Hampton Downs. Everyone is very excited to have him on board with V8ST.”

The next round of the V8 SuperTourers will be held at Powerbuilt Tools Raceway, Christchurch, on April 7-8.
