18-year-old Taylor will race an ex-Walkinshaw TWG Racing Holden ZB Commodore for Matt Chahda Motorsport at the Perth Super440 in place of Jordyn Sinni.

Carrying support from Taylor’s family’s business Method Race Wheels, the familiar black, white, and orange colours were unveiled on Tuesday ahead of the Perth round.

The young gun contested the 2025 Toyota GR Cup season with the Walkinshaw Foundation Academy, and still retains ties to the Supercars outfit.

This year, Taylor made the step into Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge with Gold Coast-based outfit TekworkX Motorsport.

He currently sits third in the championship with two rounds remaining, having taken his first race wins and round victory at Queensland Raceway in June.

Taylor completed a single test day at Winton with MCM ahead of the Perth round, having to quickly come to grips with the unique Gen 2 machine.

“I tried to learn the car as much as I could, get used to the Dunlop rubber instead of the Michelin,” Taylor told Speedcafe.

“It’s a bit of a big step, but we’ll make it work and we did everything we could on the test day to get ready for Perth.

“I’m pretty confident with the car coming into it.”

With just one pre-event hitout, Taylor noted the busy nature of the Supercars driving experience compared to the Porsche.

“The biggest difference is obviously the sequential gearbox and having to use the three pedals,” Taylor added.

“You’re constantly doing something. There are aspects like anti-roll bar settings, front and rear, and then the brake bias is a bit easier – it’s a knob, not a twist.

“Other than that, pretty much everything in it’s different.

“The tyres, how you’ve got to drive it, your driving technique, it’s a completely different car, but it’s really good to drive, I enjoyed it a lot.”

Taylor will be acquainted with Wanneroo for the first time in practice at the event, having never raced at the circuit previously.

While not confirmed, if all runs well in his debut, Taylor has expressed interest in possibly contesting further Super2 rounds this season ahead of a step up into the category next year.

“After Perth we’ll see where we stand there and if we want to do a couple more rounds maybe this year,” he added.

“Nothing’s really confirmed yet, but next year that’s definitely the step we’re looking to make.”

Taylor enters the event with the sole goal of learning and utilising the experience of the MCM squad.

“Just learn as much as possible, take in what I can from everyone around me,” Taylor said.

“A top 10 would be an amazing result, but if not, just learn as much as I can and take it into the next time I get into a Super2 car and hopefully we can improve from there.”

The Super2 Series returns for Round 3 at the Perth Super440 this weekend, July 31-August 2.

The series hits the track on Friday for two practice sessions before a 40-minute race each on Saturday and Sunday, with the return of the Top 5 Shootout after Saturday qualifying.
