Following a successful inaugural year, that saw the Fujitsu ‘Cool’ Driver racing alumni scoring numerous major championships wins, details of the 2012 program have been confirmed.
Up and coming young drivers in karting and Formula Ford will again be the recipients of career development and financial support from Fujitsu General (Aust.) Pty Limited, with applications for next year’s program set to open on 1 January.
2011 saw four national Formula Ford drivers forming part of the youth development program, with Cameron Waters claiming the Australian Championship. As the highest placed Fujitsu ‘Cool’ Driver, Waters last week enjoyed a test day with V8 Supercar Team, Fujitsu Racing/ Garry Rogers Motorsport. Waters also made his Bathurst debut as part of the Shannons Supercar Showdown winner.
Nick Foster who finished third in the Formula Ford national series completed a successful debut with fifth place overall at the Porsche City Index Carrera Cup at Sydney Olympic Park, with added support thanks to Fujitsu.
The karters representing the ‘Cool’ Driver enjoyed strong performances with Todd Hazelwood, Joey Mawson and Damon Strongman all claiming State title wins. Mawson’s stellar year culminated with a runner-up result at the World Junior Rotax Titles in Abu Dhabi, an event Fujitsu also provided additional support.
The National Marketing Manager for Fujitsu General Australia, Milton Kaloudis was delighted with how the first ‘Cool’ Driver year panned out and is looking forward to the year ahead.
“What a remarkable year our Fujitsu Cool Drivers have enjoyed,” said Kaloudis.
“We were very proud to be making that commitment and offering our support, but by the end of the year, it was the Fujitsu ‘Cool’ Drivers who had done us proud.
“Arriving at the decision to continue the program into 2012 was a very easy one and we look forward to another year of talented young drivers representing Fujitsu while achieving amazing success on the track.”
For 2012 the support of Australia’s karters will run deeper still, with applications open to any driver over the age of seven, while a continued – and expanded – presence in the Formula Ford category will also be evident.
