Mawson was found not guilty by a Swiss court of twice raping a nurse following a night of drinking at Michael Schumacher’s Geneva home in 2019.
The 30-year-old had denied the allegations and maintained the pair had consensual sex.
It’s reported the court ruled there was “insufficient evidence” to convict – a verdict welcomed by Mawson’s lawyer, Luc Vaney.
“My client is very relieved that this ordeal is now behind him. He is grateful to the court and now wants to get on with his life,” Vaney told the Daily Mail.
“He’s even talked about getting back into racing if possible because he has no black mark on his character, the judge said he was innocent.
“The court believed our version of events and was happy that the videos we provided showed the girl was conscious and able.”
The nurse reportedly left the court in tears and later released a statement
“’I feel terrible. First I was attacked, then I was sacked and now the court has basically said I am a liar,” she said.
“I have been through hell these last six years and the court decides not to convict, saying there was reasonable doubt, but no one can believe it, my lawyer is very surprised.”
Mawson befriended Michael Schumacher’s son Mick during a stint in junior European open-wheel racing.
He returned to Australia and was pursuing a career in Supercars when he was dealt a three-year anti-doping ban, which expired last month.
