Vodafone Australia has been named as the title sponsor of Supercars’ Gold Coast 600 street race.
The telecommunications provider has secured the naming rights to the final round of the Pirtek Enduro Cup, which will now be known as the Vodafone Gold Coast 600, held from October 20-22.
Confirmed at today’s Gold Coast 600 launch, the company will take over the role previously held by oil giant Castrol.
Vodafone is also the naming rights partner of the championship’s Porsche safety, course and medical cars.
“It is a natural fit for one of Australia’s leading communications providers which prides itself on speed and reliability for its customers, just as our race teams do for their drivers,” said Supercars CEO James Warburton.
“Vodafone is a blue-chip partner for our sport and we are delighted they are teaming up with such an iconic event which receives world-wide exposure for our partners.”
Supercars also confirmed that popular hip hop artists Hilltop Hoods will join the schedule for the Club 600 concert following the racing action at the event.
Hilltop Hoods will be joined by Queensland indie rock band Violent Soho while Aussie songstress Delta Goodrem headlines the Friday night show.
Sydney song-writers Montaigne, Dean Lewis and DJ Trials will feature on Saturday night at Broadwater Parklands. Gold Coaster Brooke Evers is among the DJs confirmed for the hugely popular Club 600 on track.
The Queensland Government last year signed a new deal to keep the Gold Coast 600 on the Supercars calendar until 2019 with the event seen as a key boost to the local economy, according to Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones.
“Last year the GC600 injected more than $40 million into the local economy and generated more than 90,000 visitor nights, furthering the city’s reputation as a world-class events destination,” said Jones.
“We know the people of the Gold Coast and Queensland are passionate about live sport and forecasts of a crowd of up to 200,000 people for the GC600 reflects that passion.
“This event will be broadcast into 94 countries and 263 million homes across the globe which is the perfect opportunity to further showcase the Gold Coast ahead of next year’s Commonwealth Games.”
