Cameron Hill’s Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia campaign has taken a serious knock following his weekend-ending crash at Albert Park.

Having stalled on the grid in Race 1, Hill was involved in a start-line incident with Anthony Gilbertson which left the car with heavy damage to the rear end.

The impact saw Hill initially taken to, and discharged from, the circuit medical centre before be admitted to hospital when a haematoma developed on his back.

Though again discharged with no lasting injuries, the same cannot be said for his car.

“We assessed the damage to the car at the track, and it will require a re-shell – basically, it’s a write-off,” said Hill.

“This year was always going to be a tough one in terms of funding to get through the season, but now it becomes even more difficult.

“It’s quite sickening to think that such a small mistake could have such disastrous consequences, but we’re already working hard to make sure we bounce back.”

Hill joined the Carrera Cup field this season, having stepped up from the Toyota 86 Racing Series last season.

He recorded a best finish of eighth at the opening round in Adelaide earlier this month.

Time is limited for Hill to get back on the grid in time for the next event, which sees Carrera Cup in action at Phillip Island (April 20-22).
