Australian Kenny Habul will start from the second row in his SunEnergy1 Mercedes-AMG GT3 for tomorrow’s California 8 Hours at Laguna Seca Raceway.
Habul heads into the final round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge with a 20-point advantage in the Bronze Drivers standings with a maximum of 25 points on offer for victory.
Habul’s teammate Luca Stolz sat at the top of the timesheets for the best part of the 15-minute qualifying shootout held earlier today, before a late charge from the field saw him miss pole position by just 0.181 of a second.
Audi’s Christopher Haase set the outright fastest time of 1:23.660s ahead of Mercedes-AMG driver Raffaele Marciello (1:23.763s) and Audi’s Dries Vanthoor (1:23.841s).
“It was a great effort from Luca (Stolz) and everyone at AMG today,” Habul told Speedcafe.com.
“There was nothing in it and I am happy to be on the second row.
“We have an eight-hour race tomorrow and it is irrelevant where you start, but I am really happy.
“We just need to ensure we stay out of trouble and stay out of the sand, this place is a desert and you need to keep it all together.
Habul will be joined by Mikael Greiner and Stolz in a combined 33-car field.
The California 8 Hours at Laguna Seca Raceway race is scheduled to begin tomorrow 0915 local time (0315 AEDT).
