Bryan Herta has announced his one-car operation will join Andretti Autosport to form a four-car line-up for the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series.

The #98 Bryan Herta Autosport entry will run alongside Andretti incumbents Ryan Hunter-Reay, Marco Andretti and Carlos Munoz.

While the #98 was driven by Gabby Chaves last season the team has not yet announced who will pilot the entry for the forthcoming season which starts at St Petersburg, Florida, from March 11-13.

“Bryan is a long-time friend, and I was happy to watch him build a successful IndyCar team,” team owner Michael Andretti said.

“Bringing Bryan and his crew into the family is a great opportunity for all parties to build an even stronger organisation.”

Herta realised his biggest success as a team owner when the late Dan Wheldon won his second Indy 500 in 2011 in a dramatic finish which saw JR Hildebrand crash on the final corner of the 200-lap classic.

“I couldn’t be more excited about this new chapter for Bryan Herta Autosport,” Herta said.

“Michael has been a long-time friend, and we certainly know that Andretti Autosport was a big part of my career.”
