Orrcon Steel FPR driver Mark Winterbottom has got his sights set on becoming Australia’s Greatest Athlete.
Fresh from a third placing in the 2010 Championship, Winterbottom has jetted out to the Sunshine Coast to be a part of the filming for season three of the Rexona Australia’s Greatest Athlete program.
V8 drivers have been represented in the first two seasons by TeamVodafone drivers Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes with Whincup finishing the better of the pair as runner-up to NRL star Billy Slater in the inaugural season.
Winterbottom will be a part of an eight athlete line-up that includes Hawthorn’s Luke Hodge representing AFL, Newcastle Knights NRL star Kurt Gidley, Ironman Shannon Eckstein, Rugby Union’s Quade Cooper along with champion Kayaker Ken Wallace, long jumper Fabrice Lapierre and swimmer Eamon Sullivan.
Earlier this year Winterbottom combined with Eckstein’s brother Caine to win the Orrcon Steel Men of Steel Challenge in the Gold Coast Hinterland highlighting the 29 year-old’s high level of fitness.
The program is expected to be broadcast in early 2011 on Channel 7.
