Jason Bargwanna will assume the role of Driving Standards Observer for the V8 Supercars Championship this season.
The 2000 Bathurst winner replaces Cameron McConville, who stepped down at the end of last year to focus on his position as the head of Porsche Cars Australia’s motorsport department.
Bargwanna competed in V8 Supercars, either as a full-time driver or an endurance partner, from 1997 to 2011.
He has spent recent seasons racing in the NZV8 championship in New Zealand.
“If you held me upside down, shook me and picked up all the pieces there would be an enormous amount of information and experience there,” he said.
“I am recent enough, I know all of the circuits and all of the excuses.
“We have the best 25 drivers in the best cars in the country in what will be the toughest season in years. I am really excited.”
V8 Supercars’ general manager for motorsport, Damien White, also underlined Bargwana’s experience as a key asset.
“It’s a challenging yet rewarding position that requires the right person with the real-time experience, the right personality, approach and character,” he said.
“Jason has the track record and most importantly the integrity and respect to do a great job.”
