Australian Joseph Mawson has made a solid start to his campaign in the German F4 Championship during pre-season testing at the Oschersleben circuit.
Mawson was inside the fastest two times in four of the six sessions across the two test days ahead of the championship opener at that track from April 24-26.
The young Australian is one of three cars the Van Amersfoort Racing squad will field with the other two to be driven by Mick Schumacher, the teenage son of the seven-times world champion, and Harrison Newey, son of the celebrated F1 designer Adrian Newey.
“I was inside the top two in four of the six sessions across the two days, the only two I wasn't is where I didn't put new tyres on where we focused on race simulation,” Mawson said.
“I felt really good in the car, the balance was really good and we tested a variety of things to discover what worked with my driving style and what doesn't.
“Overall I've come away from the test with some very good confidence and looking forward to the opening round here at Oschersleben in two weeks time.”
Of the 33 drivers who took to the track in testing, HTP Junior team driver Marvin Dienst, fourth in last year's ADAC Formula Masters Series, topped the timesheets overall.
