Former series winner Matt Kingsley will return to the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge field at Morgan Park this weekend following his heavy accident at Mallala in mid-May.
Despite the best efforts of fellow competitor Jon Trende, who donated a used 996 shell to Kingsley's Action Tyres & More team after his role in the Mallala accident, Kingsley missed the intervening round at Eastern Creek.
With Kingsley having now transferred the running gear from his written-off shell into the ex-Trende unit, the 2009 series winner is raring to go for this weekend's fourth round at Morgan Park.
“I'll be extremely excited to turn the key and drive out pit lane,” said Kingsley.
“It will be a good challenge at Morgan Park to dial in a setup in free practice that is hopefully good enough for a good qualifying time.
“We have only done a quick shake-down of the car at Morgan Park on the short circuit and the results were very good straight out of the box.”
Now well down on points leaders Roger Lago, Jeff Bobik and John Goodacre, Kingsley is not making any bold predictions for his return.
“Result-wise, if we have a good run I'd like to replicate last year with a pole position and just finish all the races,” said Kingsley.
“Roger Lago was seriously quick last year, but as shown at Mallala and Eastern Creek, anyone in the top 10 is more than capable of winning.”
Joining the GT3 Cup Challenge field for the first time this weekend is Nathan Tinkler, with the mining magnate having purchased a 997 spec car in order to practice for his outings in the IFX Carrera Cup Australia Championship.
The GT3 Cup Challenge is run as part of the Shannons Nationals presented by Hi-Tec Oils.
