Kostera/Tulloch secure Eastern Creek double

Team Mitsubishi Ralliart duo Stuart Kostera and Inky Tulloch have backed up their Saturday performance with a victory in today’s second Australian Manufacturers’ Championship race of the season at Eastern Creek.

While Tulloch lost the lead off the start to the similar Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X of Jim Pollicina, the Kiwi spent just one lap in second position before wrestling back the top spot.

Kostera took over for the run to the flag, eventually finishing some 31s clear of Pollicina, who spun during the race on oil dropped by the retiring Jake Camilleri Mazda 3 MPS.

Dylan and Dave Thomas (Evo IX) also repeated their Race 1 effort in third overall.

The BMWs of Peter O’Donnell (335i) and Grant Sherrin (135i) completed the top five,  with O’Donnell having taken the position and the Class B win from the Sherrin Rentals entry inside the final five laps.

Other class winners were Colin Osborne/Allan Dodd (Class C, Mazda 3 MPS) and Grant Phillips (Class E, Proton Satria GTi).

Also in action as part of the Shannons Nationals presented by Hi-Tec Oils meeting was the Radical Australia Cup, where Neale Muston held out a determined Ed Singleton to take the race victory.

Muston, who had won both sprint races on Saturday, suffered from gearbox problems in the 50 minute feature, which he later described as “the best race I’ve ever been involved in”.

Steve Shelley, Peter Johnston and Simon Haggarty completed the top five.

In the Southern Star Windows V8 Commodore Cup, it was two-time reigning winner Adam Beechey that walked away with three race victories.

Race one saw a first lap blown engine cover turn two with oil, forcing the Safety Car to the ultimate stopping of the race.  Beechey was the eventual winner from Michael Tancredi and Jordan Symes.

Race two saw Beechey win comfortably again from Tancredi and Chris Stevenson, while the final again saw the Donut King driver in top spot by beating Tancredi to the chequered flag. Ross McGregor held on for third after starting from the back of the grid.

The three Hi-Tec Oils Australian Swift Racing Series all fell to Allan Jarvis, who beat Reece Murphy and Fernando Wiehrl to the line in Race 2, before leading home Adam Brand and Rob Jarvis in Race 3.
