NASCAR Championship contender Kyle Busch will start from pole position for the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte.
It is Busch's third pole of 2014 and second at what is the sport's home track.
“We'll see how this weekend goes. Hopefully, we can come out of here with a solid finish,” said Busch.
As the Chase for the Sprint Cup continues to wind down, Busch is sitting second in the points with this race being critcal for a number of big stars after last weekend's race in Kansas.
Jeff Gordon will start alongside, whileDenny Hamlin, Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman round out the top-five starters.
Stewart, Paul Menard, Brian Vickers, Kurt Busch and Greg Biffle were the only non-Chase drivers in the final round of qualifying.
Kurt Busch set a record for fastest speed on a 1.5-mile track at 198.771 mph in the second round. The SHR driver eventually qualified 11th.
Australia's Marcos Ambrose will start from 27th.
“Our Stanley Ford was pretty fast in practice, but we have been working on the car too,” said Ambrose.
“The car has speed, but we need to get the handling better. You really had to have a clean lap to get all the speed out of the car tonight because we had a lot of fast laps.”
