Lorenzo continues MotoGP domination

The start of the Dutch TT

The start of the Dutch TT

Jorge Lorenzo has continued his winning run in MotoGP, dominating the 80th anniversary of the Dutch TT at Assen.

From pole position, the Spaniard raced to a convincing victory and has vaulted him 47 points clear in the championship fight. It was the Fiat Yamaha rider’s fourth win of the 2010 season.

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) and Casey Stoner (Ducati Team) chased Lorenzo onto the podium.

Ben Spies (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Pedrosa both made great starts, launching into second and third, but Spies eventually fell into the clutches of Pedrosa and Stoner. It was Australian Stoner’s first podium of 2010.

Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) also passed Spies to take fourth, but by the end of the race, Spies reversed that position. Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda) made a horrid start from second on the grid and could only recover to sixth.

Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team), Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) and Aleix Espargaró (Pramac Racing) rounded out the top 10.

Marco Melandri (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) was absent from the race after he dislocated his left shoulder in the second free practice session on Friday.

The next round of MotoGP wil be held in two weeks at Catalunya, Spain.
