Grand Prix motorcycle racing is on the verge of its biggest regulations overhaul in recent memory.
Engines will be downsized from 1000cc to 850cc and current tyre supplier Michelin will be replaced by Pirelli in what is effectively a straight swap with WorldSBK.
The market has never been more turbulent as teams and riders hedge their bets on the best combination.
Jack Miller finds himself in a similarly precarious position as this time last year.
After being deposed by KTM at the end of 2024 in favour of Pedro Acosta alongside Brad Binder, Miller wound up at Pramac in 2025.
It marked a return to the team for the first time since 2020 — albeit on a Yamaha in the second instance, having previously saddled a Ducati.

Miller ended his 2025 season with Pramac in 17th and was second-to-last of the riders to contest every race.
Still, he finished ahead of then-teammate Miguel Oliveira, who was subsequently axed in favour of WorldSBK champion Toprak Razgatlioglu.
Despite his MotoGP inexperience, the Turkish rider has managed to match his Australian teammate in 2026, which undoubtedly hasn’t helped Miller’s case.

Rumours are swirling that Pramac will promote its Moto2 star Izan Guevara in place of Miller.
Guevara sits second in the standings behind Intact GP rider Manuel Gonzalez, who is a curious case in his own right.
Despite leading Moto2, there appears to be very little interest in the Spaniard’s services – though a three-race win streak may make him hard to pass by if he continues that trajectory.
“I’m in the exact same position as in Mugello,” said Gonzalez at the most recent round in Hungary.
“I hope to be able to say something, but I can’t. I can’t because I don’t have anything.”
If there’s one team that ‘Manu’ might end up at, it’s Trackhouse.
Trackhouse incumbent Ai Ogura is expected to part company to join Yamaha. In his place, Enea Bastianini is reportedly set to split with KTM satellite Tech3 to join the American squad.

Whether Raul Fernandez stays at Trackhouse is also unclear. He has been on the receiving end of both extremes, with rumours that he will get a contract extension or that he might leave MotoGP entirely.
Fernandez has been a standout for the team, recently winning the sprint in Mugello. He has one grand prix podium to his name this season at Buriram.
Gonzalez tested with Trackhouse last year, and his name was linked to the team for 2027, but the strength of those rumours seem to have died down.
During the most recent round in Hungary, MotoGP commentator Jack Appleyard flagged Miller and Binder as potential Trackhouse candidates and downplayed Gonzalez’s chances.
With so many options tabled, it’s anyone’s guess what actually happens with the second seat at Trackhouse.
“There’s a lot of movement in the rider market and we’ve got talent to solve for on the team side obviously,” said Trackhouse boss Justin Marks before Hungary.
“I would say we’re probably 75 percent of the way there.
“I think we’re really close in getting our rider line-up and management solidified.
“I would suspect that there’s going to be a very clear picture of the future of this team within the next 10-14 days.
“And we’re very excited. It’s all really good things.”

Other movements in the musical chairs madness may well pave the way for Miller to leave MotoGP for WorldSBK and take the place of Aruba.it rider Nicolo Bulega.
The Italian rider has won every WorldSBK race this season and is reportedly in the frame to join VR46 alongside Fermin Aldeguer from Gresini.
So what about Agius?
With Bastianini reportedly bound for Trackhouse there is at least one vacancy at the KTM satellite squad Tech3.
Agius has repeatedly been linked to the team, and comments from co-owner Guenther Steiner in recent weeks on taking a rookie only fanned those flames.
“I am actually pretty open to taking a chance on a Moto2 rider. I think this is an opportunity for us,” he said.

“As a team like us, we cannot get Marc [Marquez], we cannot get [Marco] Bezzecchi. That’s reality, I cannot get around that.
“Obviously, we need experience, but you can mix it up, experience and take a chance on somebody who could be the next star.
“So I think that is our position, where I see us. It’s a chance for us. An opportunity.
“While maybe a big team cannot take chances, we can. And maybe, I wouldn’t say get lucky, because you need to do a good job and try to get the best talent out there for you.
“But I think that’s a big opportunity for us to try to find the next talent.”
Steiner said incumbent Maverick Vinales is under consideration, while the Alex Marquez (from Gresini) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (from VR46) to the top KTM squad could shuffle Binder to the satellite team.
Having one of either Agius or Miller on the grid in 2027 could be considered imperative to MotoGP as it makes the switch from Phillip Island to Adelaide.
Dorna Sports in its former guise championed international riders due to the strong Spanish influence. There are nine full-time riders from Spain.
With the season half done and barely any announcements made, it begs the question why?
MotoGP is in the midst of securing its framework via a new concorde agreement with the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (formerly Dorna Sports), the details of which are set to be finalised soon and announced
The 2027 grid will surely be clearer in the coming weeks.
In any case, it would appear several riders will leave MotoGP, including Franco Morbidelli and Alex Rins while Miller and Binder will have to hope for a lifeline to remain on the grid.
