Peter Major scored the fastest time in Australian GT qualifying

Peter Major claimed pole position for Australian GT Race 1 after setting the quickest time in back-to-back qualifying sessions at Barbagallo Wanneroo Raceway.

After beating the Mercedes of Peter Hackett to the fastest time in Qualifying 1, Major opened his account with an even quicker lap in Qualifying 2 aboard his Lamborghini Gallardo.

The West Australian set a 53.5615s, before parking the car in pit lane with six minutes to go in the second 15-minute session.

Hackett settled for second position on the grid, 0.16s back from Major, with Geoff Emery third in his Audi.

Teenager Ryan How proved fourth fastest, the best of the Trophy Class runners, in an older spec Audi.

Max Twigg completed the top five at the wheel of his Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Eight of the drivers in the top 10 improved on their Qualifying 1 times in Qualifying 2, with Richard Gartner and Dale Paterson the only two unable to go quicker.

Race 1 of the weekend for Australian GT begins at 2000 local time/2200 AEST.
