Michael Masi has revealed that he will retain the role of Formula 1 race director for the rest of the current season.
Masi received the shock call-up when his predecessor, Charlie Whiting, died on the eve of March’s Australian Grand Prix, but his appointment had not been made permanent.
Speaking to media at Silverstone in his now customary debrief, Masi was asked about his role and if there had been any developments.
“There has been, following a meeting with the (FIA) president Jean Todt on Saturday, he’s advised me and the FIA team that I will be continuing in the role until the end of the 2019 season,” said the Australian.
Masi had been set to act as deputy race director to Whiting at eight grands prix this year, as well as serving as race director for Formula 2 and Formula 3.
He had previously been the deputy race director for the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship and race director for the Dunlop Super2 Series.
Round 11 of the F1 world championship is the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim on July 26-28.
