Matt Campbell receives Porsche promotion 

Porsche has promoted talented Australian Matt Campbell to full factory driver status for 2020.

The German marque has confirmed the Queenslander and Frenchman Mathieu Jaminet have been elevated to the full works squad having been operating as Porsche’s young professionals this year.

Announced at Porsche’s annual Night of Champions, the pair will replace the experienced Jorg Bergmeister and 2015 and 2017 World Endurance champion Timo Bernhard.

Campbell’s factory program for next year has been revealed with the 24-year-old set to contest the five round Intercontinental GT Challenge campaign in one of two factory entries.

He will join a driver line-up that includes Jaminet, Patrick Pilet, Dirk Werner, Thomas Preining and Matteo Cairoti.

The news confirms Campbell’s return to the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour after helping Porsche to victory in this year’s event driving for Earl Bamber Motorsport alongside Werner and Dennis Olsen.

In addition to his IGTC drives, Campbell will also join Porsche’s IMSA WeatherTech Championship 2020 squad for the long distance Daytona 24 Hours, Sebring and Petit Le Mans events.

The Warwick native will team up with Nick Tandy (Great Britain) and Frédéric Makowiecki (France), while the second 911 RSR will be piloted New Zealand’s Earl Bamber, Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium) and Jaminet. 

Meanwhile, it has already been confirmed that Kiwi and Porsche Carrera Cup Australia graduate Jaxon Evans will embark on a second season in Porsche Supercup.
