Matt Stone Racing cops $3,000 fine, Pye escapes penalty

Matt Stone Racing was penalised by officials for a pit lane incident in Race 1 at the Superloop Adelaide 500 while Scott Pye was cleared following a separate investigation.

In the latter stages of the race Todd Hazelwood took to the lane for his second stop, pulling up at an awkward angle in the Matt Stone Racing pit bay.

As the South Australian exited the box he ran over an incompressible jack, which was flung by the right rear wheel of the ZB Commodore down the lane.

Following a short investigation stewards handed down a $3,000 fine and docked 30 teams’ championship points.

Pye was investigated for his part in the incident which saw both he and Lee Holdsworth find the wall at Turn 7.

Arriving on the scene of a broadside Holdsworth, who’d slid into the barrier moments earlier, the incident was referred to stewards who investigated a breach of Article 4.2 of Schedule B3 of the regulations, namely failing to obey yellow flags.

Upon reviewing on-board footage from both Pye’s and James Courtney’s cars, and using Hawk Eye footage, stewards determined there was no breach of the regulations.

The incident ultimately ended Pye’s race and while Holdsworth was able to rejoin, he did so after losing significant time in the pits as Tickford Racing worked to repair damage to the Mustang.

The only other incident from the race investigated were the starts of both Fabian Coulthard and Jamie Whincup, with the former receiving a 10-second time penalty which was served at his first stop.
