Ryan McLeod has signed two drivers to compete in the Barcelona 24 Hour event at the Cataluyna Grand Prix circuit in September.
McLeod is now looking for one more driver to partner the trio in their HSV VXR in the first of back-to-back 24 Hour events in Europe.
Stalwart production car drivers Jake Camilleri and Scott Nicholls, who finished second outright in the recent Phillip Island 6 Hour, will join McLeod for Barcelona, and all going well, will back up a week later for the Britcar 24 Hour at Silverstone.
It will be the second time the trio have teamed up after competing in the Dubai 24 Hour this year.
McLeod says that he is focusing his energies on finding a fourth and final driver where he hopes to challenge the factory-prepared SEATs.
“The main race for us is the Barcelona race,” McLeod told Speedcafe.com.
“It’s racing against the SEAT Cup cars, and we were close to them last year at Dubai, and with a bunch of upgrades to our car, we should be very close.”
The improved VX-R has been heavily modified since its last event in the Dubai 24 Hour, including wider wheels, slick tyres, wide track end, British Touring car body kit and engine and chassis improvements.
After the Barcelona and Silverstone events, the HSV will be based out of the UK where it will be prepared for the Dubai 24 Hour next year. From there, the car will be freighted with the other cars bound for the Bathurst 12 Hour.
Under the new 12 Hour regulations, the car will be able to compete at Bathurst with “all the fruit.”
“With 150 more horsepower, slick tyres and more, it should be able to lap Bathurst in a sub-2m18s,” McLeod said.
The Barcelona 24 Hour will be held on September 24-25. The Britcar 24 Hour at Silverstone will be run on October 1-2, and the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour will be held on February 24-26.
