The memory of former Novacastrian racer Stewart McColl has been recognised at the Newcastle street circuit with the unveiling of a plaque.

In his memory, a plaque was unveiled on the starter's rostrum, with a group of family and friends there to witness the occasion.
“Very fitting,” said Whincup after the unveiling.
“He was a born and bred, proud Newcastle racer. A great friend of ours who lost his life doing what he does best.
“It's fantastic to be able to honour him after all these years.”
The Coates Hire Newcastle 500 gets underway tomorrow with opening Virgin Australian Supercars practice commencing at 1210.
