An online auction of MotoGP memorabilia to raise funds for a young Canberra girl suffering a rare form of cancer will begin tomorrow.
Several members of the paddock have donated items for auction, including a Valentino Rossi ‘love letter' top one of his Yamaha racing bikes, which will be auctioned by Shannons in the hope of finding ‘A Cure for Freyja'.
Freyja Christiansen is a five-year-old Sydney girl who was diagnosed in January with a rare and aggressive form of malignant cancer.
Patients with her conditions typically do not live longer than 12 months since the diagnosis, and there is currently no know treatment or cure.
News of her plight made the MotoGP paddock, which has donated 102 items to go under the hammer.
Funds raised will go towards sending Freyja to Heidelberg, Germany, where a worldwide trial to find a cure is currently taking place.
Riders who have donated memorabilia include Jack Miller, Maverick Viñales, Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Marquez, and Cal Crutchlow.
Items include signed leathers, helmets, boots, gloves, knee-sliders, and even paintings and a pair of Moto2 front forks.
Headlining the auction is a ‘love letter' which Valentino Rossi hand-wrote to his YZR-M1 racing bike upon his exit from the factory Yamaha squad in 2010.
The auction will run from August 2-16.
