Jolyon Palmer has struck back to take the sprint race to complete the opening round of the GP2 Series in Bahrain.
The DAMS driver beat series debutant Simon Strummer (Rapax) with Julian Leal (Carlin) taking third place.
Leal, who made a fine start, finished just in front of his team-mate Felipe Nasr while Stephane Richelmi (DAMS) was fifth.
Rapax driver Adrian Quaife-Hobbs was sixth while Kiwi Mitch Evans brought his Russian Time car home in seventh following his disappointing 14th in Saturday’s longer feature race.
Palmer’s victory sees him head the points standings on 38, 10 clear of Leal with sprint race winner Stoffel Vandoorne third on 25 points.
Vandoorne (ART Grand Prix) was 22nd in the 23-lap sprint affair with Racing Engineering’s Stefano Coletti finishing 23rd after stalling on the grid and having to start from the pitlane.
