Jonathan Gliksten has been penalised for his part in a three-car crash which saw Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia’s enduro race at Phillip Island abandoned.

Gliksten has been stripped of 10 series points and will start rear of grid in the opening race when Round 2 is held at Sydney Motorsport Park’s Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event on May 1-2.

He, Michael Hovey, and Ross McGregor were, however, all discharged from Phillip Island’s medical centre having been taken there for precautionary checks.

The drama began on the opening lap of Race 3, the weekend’s Jim Richards Endurance Championship encounter, when Gliksten and Hovey tangled on the run from the Southern Loop to Stoner Corner.

The contact put them into the path of McGregor, who ended up in the tyre barriers on drivers’ left along with Gliksten.

A Safety Car was called although that was soon escalated to a red flag, as a long extrication process was carried out to ensure that McGregor would safely be removed from his damaged 911 GT3 Cup car.

McElrea Racing’s Ryan Suhle took out the round after a win in Race 1 and second placing in Race 2, despite spinning while leading the latter.

Team Porsche New Zealand’s Callum Hedge picked up the other victory.
