Casey Stoner’s bid to take a third MotoGP World Championship before retiring at season’s end has taken a hit over the last two races.
Having led the standings just 10 days ago, a fall on the final lap at the Sachsenring and an off on the way to an eighth place finish at Mugello has seen Stoner slip 37 points behind the rampant Jorge Lorenzo.
Half of the season’s 18 races still remain, however, for Stoner and his Repsol Honda squad to peg back the Yamaha rider.
