Plans to construct a new FIA/FIM graded motorsport facility in Victoria have emerged.
A development application has been submitted to Cardinia Shire Council for a new 3.7km circuit to be built at Pakenham, 56km south east of Melbourne.
UK firm Apex Circuit Design has been tasked with the design of the track which is aimed to meet FIA Grade 2 and FIM Grade B standards.
Initial designs have been produced although the final layout is yet to be finalised and could feature an extension to 4.2km.
The privately funded facility will also include an education and training complex alongside a 70 room hotel.
A spokesperson from the project has confirmed to Speedcafe.com that the circuit wishes to attract national and international events should it receive the green light from Cardinia Shire Council.
“The target of this complex is to create a world class facility that offers a wide range of sporting opportunities, especially for motorsports and clay target shooting which have a high demand but a low supply of facilities,” said the spokesperson Felicity Richardson.
“There will also be a strong focus on education, from primary school level through to RTOs (registered training organisation) supplying not only classroom facilities but also hands on education with pit facilities, cars to work on.
“Along with our architects Preston Lane and our automotive consultants Apex Circuit Design we will create a world class complex with facilities aimed at attracting national and international events.”
The Cardinia Shire Council is currently accepting submissions of feedback regarding their intended plans to support the development of the site.
Submissions close on June 28 with the council due to meet in July when it will decide whether to approve the development.
It is hoped building could commence by mid 2019.
The track is among a number of circuit proposals currently being reviewed including the second circuit at Bathurst and the new Track Perth facility in Western Australia.
