New Zealand Formula Ford champ Andre Heimgartner along with Matt Kingsley, Glenn Smith and John Goodacre are leading the Hampton Downs 12 hour at the halfway mark.
The quartet are leading in the Porsche RSR despite experiencing a problem with a locked wheel nut which forced the team to stay on the same set of tyres for 180 laps.
Another drama befell the leading Porsche when the front splitter came loose however the team had the luxury of a huge lead that had swollen to16 laps.
The Porsche 996 series driven by Jeff Lowrey, David Glasson, Bruce Stewart and Phil Hood is running second outright.
The 12-hour began in unusual circumstances when the safety car spun on the formation lap in wet conditions.
