Erebus Motorsport’s V8 Supercars will run AMG Customer Sports branding for the first time this weekend amid ongoing discussions over a fresh deal between the parties.
Erebus’ V8 Supercars effort began last season under a two-year agreement with AMG Customer Sports and Mercedes-Benz Australia which has seen its cars permitted to feature factory badging but no other AMG or Mercedes-Benz signage.
Although confirming that a new deal to extend the relationships beyond 2014 has yet to be reached, Erebus CEO Ryan Maddison told Speedcafe.com that the look of the cars in Darwin is a sign of the positive nature of the ongoing discussions.
Following the granting of approval, Erebus has elected to display the AMG Customer Sports logos across the doors and the bonnets of both the Lee Holdsworth and Will Davison driven entires at Hidden Valley as the team continues to operate without regular primary sponsors.
“There’s been a lot of speculation around the last 18 months about Erebus’ future, but right now the discussions with AMG Customer Sports are very, very positive,” Maddison told Speedcafe.com.
“It (the appearance of the signage) is a representation of how those discussions are going.”

Maddison added that he hopes to have a clearer picture of the team’s status for 2015 within the next two months.
“For a big company like Daimler the progress can be slow, however between Germany and Australia, I anticipate that over the next four to six weeks we’ll have a much clearer understanding of what our resting point is in the relationship,” he said.
Erebus began its Customer Sports relationship when it purchased the first of two SLS GT3s in 2011.
Winning the Bathurst 12 Hour in 2013, it continues to campaign a single SLS in the Australian GT Championship from its Melbourne workshop.
