Reynolds hopeful Holden changes can ‘bridge the gap’

David Reynolds

David Reynolds is hopeful the latest raft of aero changes made to the Holden Commodores will ‘bridge the gap’ to the front of the field at this weekend’s ITM Auckland SuperSprint.

Supercars confirmed last week that all 14 ZB Commodores will undergo an aero adjustment in time for the trip to New Zealand’s Pukekohe Park Raceway following a request from Holden homologation team Triple Eight.

Three changes will be made to the cars, namely the removal of the high-level brake light detail from the tailgate, the addition of a gurney to the rear wing endplates along the trailing edge and the extension of the front undertray.

While the tweaks are untested in competition, Reynolds is hoping they will provide a boost this weekend after a difficult round at The Bend Motorsport Park last month.

The Penrite Racing driver recorded results of seventh and 13th from the two races in South Australia and was out-paced by his team-mate Anton De Pasquale, as Holden struggled to match the Fords.

“I have won races there before, been on the podium and had pole, so I’ve gone pretty good in the past,” said Reynolds.

“The track is good fun, it’s high-speed, rough, flows good and it’s challenging.

“Hopefully the changes that Supercars have provided our cars with bridge the gap and we are able to tune the car and come on strong this weekend.

“Anton was really fast at Tailem Bend and we are going to a similar track, so hopefully what we have learnt from him we can put in my car and go forward this weekend.”

Pukekohe also marks the return of the Armor All Top 10 Shootout on Sunday with Reynolds holding the best streak on the grid, having being involved in the last 18, stretching back to Darwin in 2017.

“It’s a really good thing to have consistently made the Shootout for that long,” he said.

“It’s hard to do as a driver and it’s not always up to you, it takes the whole team to produce a fast car and myself to drive it a bit harder.”

The Auckland SuperSprint is set to begin with opening practice on Friday.
