Daniel Ricciardo described a stewards decision to issue a three-place grid penalty for the Australian Grand Prix as ’s**thouse.’
Ricciardo had been on a flying lap and failed to stay above the minimum time set by the FIA ECU, although evidence proved the five-time grand prix winner slowed down significantly, which lessened the severity of his penalty.
The Australian was aggrieved by the decision and disagreed with the penalty full stop when speaking to Network Ten ahead of Practice 3, which is scheduled 1400 local time.
“Yesterday’s news has been pretty bitter for me. I’m pissed to say the least,” Ricciardo told Ten.
“I made a mistake, no doubt about it, but is that mistake worth a grid penalty in a practice session when no cars on track, no-one’s upside down.
“It was a cable on the track. I didn’t pass the incident. I just think common sense should have prevailed. I think it’s s***house.”
Ricciardo was also handed two penalty points on his superlicence for the infringement.
