Aspiring young single seater driver Chelsea Angelo is eyeing a move to the Australian Formula 3 Championship following a successful test last week.
The 17-year-old, who completed her first season of open wheel racing in the Australian Formula Ford Championship this year, joined Team BRM to make her F3 debut in a test at Mallala last week.
After a positive run in the Dallara F307, Angelo believes a season in the Australian Formula 3 is the correct next step for her career, but a deal will depend on budget.
“I think F3 is the step I would like to go,” Angelo told Speedcafe.com.
“I really want to stick with open wheel race cars and I think F3 is the best category for me to extend my career.
“However if there are any other opportunities that arise we will have a look at them.
“Formula Ford was really good this year and because we don’t know where it is going next year so F3 is the right next step.
“We’re hoping to try and do Australian F3 next year but we are still cooperating with our sponsor Oz Staff to see how they feel about doing F3.”
Although she has set her sights on a move to Formula 3, Angelo admitted she has started to look overseas for opportunities, casting her eye over several categories in America.
“We have had a look at America. We think Europe is going to be a bit too expensive but we have looked into open wheel categories in America.
“At the moment I think we will stick to Australia but if we really want to progress forward we may look overseas.”
Angelo, who starred in channel 7’s Shannons Supercar Showdown, had been slated to drive with her Formula Ford team, Evans Motorsport, in next year’s Dunlop Series before the squad’s ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcon was sold.
