Cameron Shields will contest the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship this season after securing a deal with Team BRM.
The 15-year-old is regarded as a rising star in Australian open wheel racing having won the Australian Formula 3 National Class title last year.
Shields, backed by fast food giant McDonald’s, tested the Mygale F4 car at Winton late last year before agreeing terms with reigning champion squad Team BRM.
The teenager from Toowoomba joins Tyler Everingham and Simon Fallon at the South Australian Team BRM outfit this year.
“I’m certainly looking at making a stand in the category and hopefully I can be right up the front throughout the season,” said Shields.
“I am looking forward to the level playing field that Formula 4 provides technically and can’t wait for the series to start in early April.”
Team BRM boss Mark Rundle is confident his latest recruit will impress during his debut F4 campaign.
“The team were really impressed with how Cameron went about the test with us last year, and his credentials are certainly backed up by his performance,” added Rundle.
“Having had Jordan Lloyd and Will Brown race for us over the last couple of seasons, Toowoomba’s certainly producing some great racing drivers at the moment.
“We’re eager to see how Cameron will develop with us this year.”
The Australian F4 Championship campaign begins with a double round at Sandown Raceway from April 7-9.
