Singaporean Ferrari squad commits to full WEC tilt

Clearwater Racing has confirmed its intention to do the full WEC schedule this year

Clearwater Racing will field its Ferrari 488 in the full nine-round World Endurance Championship this season.

The squad confirmed its intention as it competes in the third round of the Asian Le Mans Series at the Buriram circuit in Thailand this weekend.

Clearwater will campaign current ALMS trio Mok Weng Sun, Keita Sawa and Matt Griffin in the WEC GTE Am class.

The team dipped its toes against WEC competition last year when it finished fourth in GTE Am and 30th outright at the Le Mans 24 Hour.

Mok, Clearwater team principal and driver, said he had been toying with the idea for sometime before deciding to take the plunge.

“I’ve been waving back and forth on the idea, and then this weekend I just had a good chat with the team and said; ‘let’s go do it’,” Mok said.

“I was actually planning on retiring from racing after this season in the Asian Le Mans Series.

“I’ve been doing it for 11 years and I’ll be turning 50 next year, so I thought I’d wind it back.

“But the lure of being able to race in the premier GT championship in the World was just too much.”

Clearwater competed at the Bathurst 12 Hour from 2012-2015 with its best results coming from Mok, Craig Baird and Griffin who were second in 2013 after finishing third the year before at the mountain track.
