Six rookies ready for new Formula 3 season

Chelsea Angelo will be one of six rookies making their Formula 3 Australian Drivers’ Championship debut on the streets of Adelaide this weekend.

The Formula Ford graduate is campaigning her own Dallara F307 in this year’s championship after initial plans to join the Dunlop Series fell through.

Other rookies in the currently confirmed 11-driver field include New South Wales state racers Chris Anthony and Garnet Patterson, karters Ricky Capo and Roland Legge, and Kumho Cup campaigner Dennie Rumble.

Championship organisers are hopeful of attracting as many as five more entries for the first points-scoring round of the new Kumho Cup, which will be contested by 1999 to 2004-built F3 cars, at Sandown in March.

Those expected to contend for outright honours this season include Queenslander John Magro, who finished second to the now Dunlop Series-bound Tim Macrow last year.

Gilmour Racing’s Ben Gersekowski is the only other driver who finished in the top 10 last season to return for 2014.

Magro is also likely to find stiff competition from new Team BRM team-mate Simon Hodge, who made his F3 debut at Sandown last year, while reigning National Class winner Arrie Marree leads R-Tek’s line-up.

All F3 entries will carry the branding of multi-platinum, ARIA award winner hip-hop duo Bliss N Eso this weekend.

The act, which has previously backed Magro, will be a part of the Friday night concert festivities in the Adelaide Parklands.
